Carey MacArthur is a photographer and fine artist based in New York City and available to travel worldwide. Her images are a blend of formal photographic training and a passion for telling stories with pictures. She specializes in capturing natural, candid moments while also quietly directing iconic cinematic scenes. She believes a wedding day deserves to be documented beautifully, as a sacred testament to love and life; recorded with the same care and compassion that two individuals in love have for one another.
With twenty years of wedding photography experience behind her, Carey has developed an editorial style for capturing the essence, rhythm and energy of every wedding she photographs. She sees herself as a channel for the magic swirling all around us. Her goal is to make herself available in body, mind and spirit for the story of your wedding to be told through her.

Hi Carey,
I’ve been meaning to write and tell you how much we love the photos! I’ve probably looked at them 5,000 times now—and every time, I spot some new hilarious or beautiful detail. Everyone we’ve shared them with has said the same thing: you captured the feel of the wedding perfectly. And you caught so many lovely moments!
As we first looked through them, I kept hearing the voices of the people in the photos pop into my mind. It reminded me of Bernini’s idea of a “speaking likeness”—the idea that capturing someone just as they’re about to speak, or when they’ve just spoken, reveals their character. You managed to capture the people we love most in the world truly being themselves, and I can’t thank you enough for that. Your photos will be among our dearest possessions for the rest of our lives.
Thank you again. We’re so grateful you were part of our wedding.
Warmly,
Anne & Nick
P.S. We used the lobster claw hand-holding photo for our thank-you cards. We both love that one way too much.

Carey!
These are absolutely EXQUISITE!!! We took your advice and had a little viewing party for a date night last night. So incredibly magical!
Seriously - the emotions - joy, laughter, silliness, even stress and trepidation, just leap out of each image. We felt all the emotions all over again. It is so special. These are such beautiful works of art and we feel so lucky that you donned your magic and created these images for us. Frankly we just cannot believe we could look this cool on film. You are so freaking talented.
We're sharing with the fam today and will be viewing and re-viewing all weekend but just wanted to send you a note to say THANK YOU and let you know we think these are totally spectacular. We just adore you - you're basically a member of the family now.
Xx,
Jen + Ben

Thank you so, so, so much Carey!!!! We were looking forward to these all day, and finally sat down and had the best time viewing the gallery together. The photos are stunning and fun and phenomenal. We've decided we'll need to look at them a bunch of times to even process how much we love them. We are stunned by not just the moments you captured, but the fantastic artistic style with which you did so. We feel so lucky to have spent our wedding day with you and will cherish these forever!!!! We can't wait to share these with our family and friends too.
All our best,
Claire & Jake

Carey! I just want to hug you!
We took your advice, practiced self restraint, and waited to go through the photos together last night. Then zoomed in our best man and maid of honor to share screen so we could relive the weekend a second time with them.
We have so many favorite parts, but some include: seeing the wedding through the kids eyes, how the camp setting distorted time and some of the photos look like they’re a century old; but most of all, the moments no one knew you were there capturing the best of their emotions.
Thank you
x

I count my lucky stars that my husband and I were fortunate enough to work with Carey for our wedding photos. Carey’s photos are simply works of art. She has the ability to create exquisite, photojournalistic images that are so full of emotion, the feeling of the moment simply leaps off the page. I searched long and hard for the “right” photographer for our wedding day and just cannot say enough how truly grateful we were to work with Carey. As if her photography talents were not enough, she is simply the warmest human who is so genuinely happy to be part of the special moments she is photographing. She was rooting so deeply for our happiness. We (and frankly our whole extended families) considered Carey part of the family by the end of our wedding night. She integrated with our crew seamlessly and was in no way intrusive. Carey was also so patient with us during the planning phases, made time late in the evening to speak with us when she knew our work schedules were hectic and invited us down to her Brooklyn studio for a pre-wedding photo shoot to help with the pre-wedding jitters. Not to be understated is just how calming a presence Carey was to us on our wedding day. She can take two stressed humans and work her magic so they are having nothing but the best time ever (and feel like subjects of a Time magazine/Vogue cover story). Easily the best money we spent in the entire wedding process – we had so much fun together and we are obsessed with our wedding photos. Carey is an incredible talents – run, don’t walk to book if you are in need of any photography for life’s most special moments. We hope to have an excuse to work with them again soon.
